bi-weekly group meetings

Every other monday at 6:30pm

For men & women suffering from a food addiction, highly palatable foods (which are rich in fat, sugar, and/or salt) trigger chemical reactions in the brain that induce feelings of pleasure and satisfaction. This reaction has been explained as comparable to an addict’s response to their substance of choice, as it activates the same brain reward center. This can lead to several physical, emotional, and social consequences, such as digestive issues, heart disease, obesity low self-esteem, depression, and isolation. A food addict will often re-engage in these destructive behaviors, even amidst undesired consequences, due to the need for induced feelings of pleasure.

Brian T. Gamarello MA, LCADC, CCS, ICCS

Mr. Gamarello began his career in addictions treatment volunteering at a detox program in 1995.  Knowing nothing about the substance abuse treatment field, that experience shed an early light on the powerful grip of addiction.  It also served as the launching point for Brian’s career in addictions treatment. He decided to enroll in a Master’s program at Montclair State University where he graduated with a Masters in Counseling, with a specific concentration in addictions counseling.  While in graduate school, Brian was awarded the Donald Gregg Award for his work with addicts in a residential program. Realizing that furthering his education would enable to better serve his clients, Brian became a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) and later an Internationally Certified Clinical Supervisor. (ICCS)

For the past 24 years, Brian has worked in every level of care from outpatient to inpatient hospitalization and has gone from a Counselor Aide to an Executive Director.  He has been featured on several news programs both local and national (Geraldo-at-large, FOX 5 News, ABC News, Steve Adubato Show) discussing several key addiction topics.  Brian is married with 3 children and enjoys spending time on the beach, “living the dream.”
